What blade steel is in the PDW SPD Invictus-SP?
CPM MagnaCut is a powder metallurgy stainless super steel developed by Larrin Thomas and Crucible Industries. It delivers a balance of edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance that outperforms most prior premium knife steels. Unlike conventional stainless alloys, the CPM process produces a finer, more uniform carbide structure, which is why MagnaCut has become the benchmark steel for serious EDC folding knives and field use blades since its introduction.
How does CPM MagnaCut compare to S30V or M390?
MagnaCut outperforms both in the areas that matter most for a hard-use camp and trail knife. Compared to CPM S30V, MagnaCut offers significantly better toughness and corrosion resistance while maintaining comparable or better edge retention. Compared to M390 (and its near-equivalents 20CV and CPM 20CV), MagnaCut delivers superior toughness. M390 is a high-wear-resistance steel but is more brittle under lateral stress. MagnaCut was specifically engineered to close the gap between toughness and corrosion resistance that previous premium steels forced you to trade off. For an EDC knife that moves from kitchen prep to campsite to coastal environments, it is the most capable all-around ferrous alloy option currently available.
What is the difference between the Invictus and the Invictus-SP?
The Invictus-SP (Slimmer Profile) features a reduced handle thickness of 0.416 inches versus the original Invictus, for a lower-profile pocket carry. Both share the same US Design Patent (D752,411 S), CPM MagnaCut blade, billet 6AL-4V titanium framelock construction, ceramic bearings, and lock bar stabilizer. The SP is optimized for everyday carry comfort, particularly for urban and professional carry where a slimmer profile matters, without compromising field capability.
What is the best use for the PDW SPD Invictus-SP?
The Invictus-SP is built for the full spectrum of camp, trail, expedition and urban EDC use: food preparation at the campsite, bushcraft tasks on the trail, utility cutting in daily carry, and backcountry expedition use where a reliable, corrosion-resistant blade matters. The CPM MagnaCut steel and titanium framelock construction make it equally at home in salt air coastal environments and high-altitude dry conditions. It is purpose-built as an expedition and adventure EDC tool, not a display piece.
What pocket clip does the Invictus-SP use?
The Invictus-SP ships with a low-ride billet titanium pocket clip. The low-ride carry position keeps the knife deep in the pocket for a cleaner everyday carry profile, reducing print and bulk. The clip is machined from the same grade of titanium as the handles and finished to match.

What does the lock bar stabilizer do?
The lock bar stabilizer (LBS) is a small insert fitted to the framelock that prevents the titanium lock bar from traveling past its optimal engagement point. Without it, repeated use can cause the lock bar to migrate further open over time, reducing the percentage of blade tang it contacts and compromising lockup integrity. The LBS maintains consistent lock engagement for the life of the knife, an important feature in a full titanium framelock folder where lock bar set is a known long-term consideration.
