Origin/Distribution: The horticulturalist Karl Foerster introduced this cultivar in 1956. The species is native to a broad geographical range from central Europe into western Siberia and central Asia.

More: Salvias are deer resistant. Shear after first bloom to spruce up the plant and invite repeat blooming. Looks good with late season grasses in particular, because if planted amongst them, it's earlier to emerge foliage and bloom obscures the slow-to-get-going grass clumps.
