The Aberdeen Line was founded in 1825 by George Thompson to take sailing vessels to the St. Lawrence river carrying some passengers and returning with cargoes of timber.
Routes expanded to South America and Australia during the nineteenth Century. In 1932 Shaw Savill and Albion bought the Aberdeen Line and a year later the former Australian Commonwealth Line was incorporated to form the Aberdeen and Commonwealth Line.
S.S. Esperance Bay was built in 1922 and intended mainly for the emigrant trade.
King Georg V Dock opened in 1921. More recently London City airport was built on the North bank of the dock.
This label was collected on a journey from London to Port Said.
