PAVEL PANEK (1945-2008) studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Železny Brod under Stanislav Libenský. In 1969 Pánek went to work as an artist at Sklo Union in Teplice, where he remained until 1995. He belongs to the youngest group of designers of Czech pressed glass. Soon he earned the much deserved respect of other artist for his designs. In the seventies Pánek developed a new way of casting molds, and from these experiments emerged his highly rated 'Boutique' line for Rudolfova Hut. In 1972 Pánek created his animal anaglyphs of Aries, Leo, and Capricorn, which he produced using the specific benefits of compression technology. The core (hull) forms a hollow space and the rest of the body is formed independently. Pánek’s contributions to pressed glass are to be found in his ability to experiment with various glass techniques and extend them to new themes.
