The OE thermal bypass valve is designed to route bypass the transmission cooler in cold temperatures in order to bring the transmission up to operating temperature faster. Unfortunately, the bimetallic valve commonly fails in the closed position. When this happens, the fluid bypasses the cooler and it is essentially eliminated from the loop causing hot transmission fluid to constantly circulate right back into the transmission, never, or barely, passing through the cooler at all.
Smashed Performance’s Thermal Bypass Valve Upgrade utilizes an unrestricted straight through design, eliminating the recirculation aspect of the factory TBV. No more having to worry about when the factory part will fail you. By removing the passageway that returns hot fluid back to the transmission, fluid restriction is reduced, lowering overall transmission temperatures. A transmission that runs cool will last longer than one that’s always hot. Installation is just like installing the OE part, requiring no cutting or modifications to the factory lines.
