MP Farina Cassava Flour is a fermented, slightly sour cassava meal — the characteristic base ingredient for traditional cassava fufu swallow across Nigeria and West Africa. Farina’s gentle fermented sourness is what gives cassava fufu its distinctive tang that sets it apart from plain cassava flour or garri — a flavour that regular fufu eaters recognise and seek out. It prepares quickly to a smooth, elastic swallow that pairs beautifully with egusi soup, okra stew, ogbono, banga soup, and bitter leaf soup, making it a versatile alternative to pounded yam and eba on the Nigerian table.

Buy cassava flour online in the UK from Surulere Foods — we deliver authentic Nigerian and West African swallow flours to addresses across the UK with fast, tracked nationwide delivery.

How to prepare

  • Bring water to a boil in a heavy pot — approximately 2 cups water per 1 cup of farina.
  • Gradually pour in the flour whilst stirring continuously with a wooden turner to prevent lumps.
  • Reduce heat, cover, and steam for 2 minutes. Stir again firmly until the swallow is smooth and elastic.
  • Serve hot alongside your preferred Nigerian soup.

Storage

  • Store in a cool, dry place in an airtight container away from moisture. Best used within 6 months of opening.

Frequently asked

Is farina the same as garri?

They are both cassava-based but processed differently. Garri is roasted and granular — it can be eaten dry or used as eba swallow. Farina is an unroasted, finely milled meal used primarily for smooth fufu swallow.

Is it gluten-free?

Yes — cassava is naturally gluten-free. Check the pack for cross-contamination information.

Sturdy paper bowls, economical quantity purchase
Size: 300 Count
I previously bought 50 (?) of the paper plates to check the quality and see how well they hold up before making quantity purchases of other paper products. The bowls hold up well though I use them primarily for cut up avocados, sliced tomatoes, cole slaw, etc. I have used them in the microwave under 15 seconds to reheat toasted English muffins with marmalade with no problem. I use Pyrex glass bowls in the microwave for veggies and soups, so I am unable to speak on how well the bowls hold up with hot foods in the microwave. I resisted buying and using paper bowls and plates for a long time; however, with my 80th birthday fast approaching, the fewer dishes I have to wash means less time standing on my feet. I am an experienced shopper, and these quality paper products bought in bulk are the best buy I have found. I recommend them.

Strong and very convenient
Size: 50 Count
These paper bowls are sturdy and hold up well even with hot or liquid foods. They don’t get soggy easily and are microwave safe, which makes them very convenient. The size is also great for soups, cereal, or leftovers. Good quality for disposable bowls and very practical for everyday use.

Sturdy, great value, very utilitarian
Size: 50 Count
Exactly what I wanted. Exact quality thickness and sturdiness. Only small downside is they're coated in a wax like substance and stick together so you have to pry them apart and if you microwave something, it tends to meld together and also stick into the bowl. But I still love them especially the price.
