Chaos and complexity explained, with illuminating examples ranging from unpredictable pendulums to London's wobbly Millennium Bridge.

The math we are taught in school is precise and only deals with simple situations. Reality is far more complex. Trying to understand a system with multiple interacting components--the weather, for example, or the human body, or the stock market--means dealing with two factors: chaos and complexity. If we don't understand these two essential subjects, we can't understand the real world. In Everyday Chaos, Brian Clegg explains chaos and complexity for the general reader, with an accessible, engaging text and striking full-color illustrations.

By chaos, Clegg means a system where complex interactions make predicting long-term outcomes nearly impossible; complexity means complex interacting systems that have new emergent properties that make them more than the sum of their parts. Clegg illustrates these phenomena with discussions of predictable randomness, the power of probability, and the behavior of pendulums. He describes what Newton got wrong about gravity; how feedback kept steam engines from exploding; and why weather produces chaos. He considers the stock market, politics, bestseller lists, big data, and London's wobbling Millennium Bridge as examples of chaotic systems, and he explains how a better understanding of chaos helps scientists predict more accurately the risk of catastrophic Earth-asteroid collisions. We learn that our brains are complex, self-organizing systems; that the structure of snowflakes exemplifies emergence; and that life itself has been shown to be an emergent property of a complex system.

A must buy for the littles this winter.
Format: Kindle
Frostfire is a must buy for the littles this winter. I read through it once myself and absolutely loved the story and especially the illustrations. A very classic, winter whimsy. The second time I read Frostfire was with my 3 and 5 year olds. They also enjoyed it and had quite the debate over whether the snow dragon would be real. The 3 year old won! Looking forward to this book's release and coming across some frostfire in the real world this winter. Thanks to Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books and NetGalley for the eARC!

atmospheric illustrations and a story about sharing imagination
Format: Hardcover
I received this book as part of the LibraryThing EarlyReviewer program. The illustrations are photographs of collage, with some digital editing to add snow effects. It's a bit of an atmospheric "kids go for a walk in the snow" book, a la The Snowy Day, but for older kids. I liked how there was a subtle background story about children trying to navigate having slightly conflicting imaginative stories. It can be a challenge for a kid to learn how to do this when playing with others. The illustrations of the dragon especially were a wonderful surprise. My 8 year old loved the book and is happy that we get to keep it.

A Glittery Fantasy
Format: Hardcover
The author's sparkling illustrations highlight this magical tale of two fox sisters and their grand adventure in a snowy wonderland. What begins as a mild prank played by the older sister on the younger turns out to be a spectacular reality . . . or does it? This is a lovely salute to the imagination and the joys of childhood. Many thanks to the publisher for sharing.

I was immediately drawn to this book by the bewitching title and exquisite artwork. We follow two sisters, Celeste and Miriam, on their garden adventure in the magical snow. This story was the perfect length, with enchanting drawings and an adorable plot with charming sisters. Such a joy to read I will definitely be looking forward to reading this book with my daughter. I could see it being a winter favorite.

If you have sensitive skin and dont want premium prices, Cremo’s body wash is an excellent option A+
Scent: Palo Santo, Size: 16 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Scent: Palo Santo, Size: 16 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Cremo’s body wash for men has become a staple in our household. The product exudes a luxurious feel, from the rich lather to the clean, long-lasting scent that genuinely resembles a more expensive fragrance. This body wash possesses a pleasant aroma of cardamom, papyrus, and most notably, palo santo. It features a warm, woody, and spicy scent, which is one of my preferred fragrance notes. Notably, the scent is strong without being overpowering. Additionally, I appreciate the aesthetic appeal of the bottle. The exquisite and vintage-inspired packaging complements the fragrance effectively. What truly sets Cremo’s body wash apart is its gentle nature. I have sensitive skin and this body wash does not cause dryness or irritation. In fact, it leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth, which is not always the case with other brands I have tried. The affordability of Cremo’s body wash is a significant advantage. It offers a high-end feel and fragrance without incurring excessive costs, making it an easy choice for repeat purchases. If you or your family have sensitive skin or simply desire a pleasant scent without paying premium prices, Cremo’s body wash is an excellent option. Highly Recommended. 5/5 Stars.
