Six Questions Your The Great American Bagel Franchise Financial Model Must Answer

We built this franchise unit financial model using deep-dive research into the bakery-cafe sector and typical franchise disclosures. The model arrives pre-populated with researched data for a standard unit, including a $133,000 Year 1 EBITDA and a 5-year payback period, but remains fully editable to match your specific lease terms and local labor market. It is designed to be a pragmatic tool for owners who need to see the real-world impact of 4% royalties and $9,500 monthly rent on their bottom line.

When does this unit turn a profit?

The unit reaches profitability early in its lifecycle, with a break-even date projected for April 2026. This franchise unit profit and loss statement example shows Year 1 EBITDA at $133,000, though Year 2 sees a slight dip to $111,000 as the operation stabilizes before climbing toward $400,000 by Year 5.

Profitability Levers

  • Optimize high-margin coffee sales
  • Scale catering to $405k
  • Reduce food waste percentages
[dynamic_pic9]

What is the total investment and capital allocation?

To launch this unit in the US, you need to account for $455,000 in primary CAPEX plus the $20,000 franchise fee. When learning how to calculate startup costs for a food franchise, it is vital to include the $220,000 for leasehold improvements and $110,000 for specialized baking equipment as shown in this startup budget template for retail food franchises.

Major Capital Uses

  • Leasehold Improvements: $220,000
  • Baking Equipment: $110,000
  • Furniture and Fixtures: $45,000
[dynamic_pic10]

What are the expected investor returns?

Investors can expect an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 2.09% and a Return on Equity (ROE) of 0.61 over the initial term. This ROI analysis indicates a 5-year payback period, which is standard for a heavy-CAPEX food service model where equipment and build-out costs are significant. Calculating ROI for local food service business requires this long-term view to account for the ramp-up in catering revenue.

Key Return Metrics

  • IRR: 2.09%
  • Payback Period: 5 Years
  • Year 5 EBITDA: $400,000
[dynamic_pic11]

What sales volume reaches break-even?

The monthly break-even point is achieved in month 4, specifically April 2026. Using this Excel template for restaurant franchise financial planning, we see that the primary driver for reaching this point is the $830,000 Year 1 revenue target, which relies heavily on the $280,000 bagel sales and $120,000 coffee sales. This speed defintely depends on maintaining a tight 15.5% food cost margin early on.

Break-even Accelerators

  • Increase average ticket size
  • Drive morning foot traffic
  • Minimize early labor overtime
[dynamic_pic12]

How much cash is needed for the ramp-up?

The lowest cash point for the operation is $805,000, occurring in June 2026. This cash flow forecasting tool suggests you need a solid runway to cover the $9,500 monthly rent and $203,000 in initial annual wages before the catering revenue stream fully matures. Your operating expenses spreadsheet should always include a buffer for these early months of operation.

Cash Protection Actions

  • Phase furniture and fixtures
  • Negotiate rent abatement periods
  • Manage opening food inventory
[dynamic_pic13]

How do different scenarios impact the bottom line?

Financial modeling for multi-unit franchise expansion shows that a 'High' scenario is driven by the catering segment growing from $80,000 to $405,000. If catering lags or if the $28,000 crew member salaries rise faster than the 5.0 FTE plan, the Year 1 margin will tighten significantly, delaying the 5-year payback target.

Improving High-Case Odds

  • Aggressive B2B catering outreach
  • Local Mueller district marketing
  • High staff retention rates

Samsung - Good Stuff
Size: 32-inch
If I could get my kid's face out from in front of it for a few minutes, I might write a better, perhaps more technical review than this: Bought it for her birthday (along with a gaming PC) and have not seen her since then, as she sit's in front of it gaming all the time now. Samsung makes great stuff, price was perfect, maybe I'll get a good look at it someday.

A fantastic display for both gaming and productivity.
Size: 32-inch
The Odyssey G55C delivers a remarkably immersive experience. The 1000R curvature naturally fits the field of view and significantly enhances focus during work or gaming. The QHD resolution paired with 165Hz refresh rate produces a sharp, smooth, and responsive display. HDR10 improves contrast, and AMD FreeSync ensures tear-free motion. Even for long working hours, the Eye Care features help reduce fatigue. Pros: Deep 1000R curve enhances immersion. Sharp QHD resolution with 165Hz smoothness. Excellent color and contrast for its price range. Low input lag, great for gaming and productivity. Anti-glare coating works well. Cons: Limited USB ports (typical of gaming monitors) Stand allows tilt only—no height adjustment. Verdict: A fantastic display for both gaming and productivity. This monitor provides premium performance at an exceptional value.

Top tier gaming monitor
Size: 32-inch
This monitor is the best of its class. The picture on it is better compared to its competitor, the LG ultra gear. The monitor allows you to maximize your Series X refresh rate. The HDR mode is actually brighter than statistics would give it credit for. LG's model has the same nits (300) but this literally just looks better. I just wish the stand was different, it could go without being completely plastic and awkward and non-adjustable. It has the proper mounting holes however so that it may be mounted.

Great monitor but not the monitor stand
Size: 32-inch
Overall, this is a very good monitor for the price. The picture quality is excellent, and the difference compared to my previous 27-inch 1080p monitor is immediately noticeable. The curved screen adds to the viewing experience, and there are plenty of settings available to customize the display, including good brightness options. My main complaint is the stand. It feels a bit cheap due to its plastic construction and lack of adjustability. Considering the quality of the monitor itself, a better stand would have been nice. The monitor does not include built-in speakers, which wasn't an issue for me but may matter to some buyers. Despite the stand, this monitor offers great value and delivers excellent overall performance.

Great for Videos and browsing
Size: 32-inch, Size: 32-inch
I did not buy this for gaming. I wanted a second monitor to browse while playing video games. With that being said it has great picture and doesn’t have any issues with refresh or delivering crisp picture quality. YouTube videos at 4K resolution is almost perfect. Its functions are user friendly and not complicated at all. The stand is rather long because of it being 32” and curved but it is strong and stable. It was super simple to connect and had no issues with compatibility with my PC. I wouldn’t use this for gaming especially if your running a high performance GPU. I’d spend a few hundred more for a better performing monitor
