The Mickey Mouse Club began as a local club, starting at the Fox Dome Theater in Ocean Park, California in 1929. The group quickly grew over the years with more than a million members by 1932, members getting together at their local theaters for cartoon matinees. This beautiful full figure 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing was originally thought to be created for a travelogue film starring Douglas Fairbanks, but we now know it was created exclusively for a rare promotional short for the early days of the Mickey Mouse Club in 1929. Mickey is smiling and ready to go with a megaphone, rendered masterfully in graphite. The drawing measures about 2.75'' x 3.25'' and is noted as 167 in the lower right. This outstanding piece of Disney history is in very good condition with minor edge and handling wear and light age-related toning.
The paper used by Disney studios in the 1920s-1930s contains a distinctive watermark, visible in one of the photos, which further attests to its authenticity.
The drawing is sold unframed.
